And many more in the state of Oregon. Along with being a classically trained pianist and multi-genre percussionist, he is also a producer and composer of many original beats and song remixes. He is the son of Lane County Commissioner, Bobby Green. Born and raised in Eugene, Oregon until a year ago, married and moved to Vancouver, Washington to follow his DJ career in a bigger city and now plays in some of the most popular nightclubs in the Portland area. He is the newest Northwest member of Def Jamz.
This year's competition will be different than the last 2 years. He will be coming with a more musical approach. Letting the other competitors bring the turntable tricks. He will be using some original beats, enhancing the Bach instead of trying to disguise it. "Expect the unexpected." DJ Smuve quoted. "But if I do lose my title this year, I couldn't have picked two better DJ's to lose to."
DJ Billy, who originally started as a B-Boy back in 1982, has been Eugene's most skilled battle dj for 15 years now. Known for his precise scratches and turntable wizardry, Billy has an uncanny ability to turn peoples' heads as well as make their asses shake. Billy is what most would call a true skool dj, one whose roots stem from funk, break beat, and old school hip-hop. Making people dance has never been a problem for Billy as patrons constantly are amazed by the ways in which he controls the crowd with mere turntablism and funky breakdowns.
Unlike most hip-hop deejays, Billy has a particular fondness for punk and rock and is able to interpolate those genres into his party sets. He is also no stranger to the live local music scene as he has found himself as part of groups such as Genus Pro and Papa's Soul Kitchen. Billy has also opened for KRS-One, Naughty by Nature, Mr. Lif, Latyrx, Living Legends, Swollen Members, Ozomatli and Crown City Rockers. Billy has also been active locally by helping put together the annual production of "Down 4 It," a hip-hop music and dance event that benefits charity.
Listening to music nonstop from a young age led Sam Edelmann to purchase a set of turntables at age 13. Limited to only a few records and no other equipment Sam began trying to figure out how to scratch on his own, picking it up by ear from other DJ’s songs and mixtapes. Soon he was rocking parties for his friends in early high school as well as collaborating on music with his brother (G_Force). Always focused on utilizing the turntable more as its own musical instrument then as a platform for just playing other peoples music, Celsius developed a precise & technical style that he has been constantly working to improve since day one. Now at age 23, Celsius has performed all around the Northwest, including venues in Portland as well as the 2004 Bumbershoot festival in Seattle. His passion for turntablism has opened up opportunities to meet and collaborate with other artists from LA to London and many places in between. Currently you can catch Celsius performing with his Hip Hop trio Alliance Crew around Eugene, OR.
